The rewiring of the home was implemented following an integration of Home Automation and Security  Applications (HASA) using mac OS X computers to document and to manage the operation of the home. We aimed home automation at monitoring and analyzing the well-being of dwellers. The monitoring is implemented using the integration of several systems like Energy Managements, Home Automations, Security,  Network, and Burglar Alarm. For example, the collection of well-being data consists in monitoring dwellers motion to measure home activity. The home activity can be displayed hourly, daily, and monthly on a local touch screen or remotely over the internet using the web server. In the weather system, there is a collection of live cameras that serve as pre alarms and to provide weather informations outside the home, the wind is also monitored by the energy system and its data is displayed in a touchscreen and browsers when using a web server.

In a smart home the synergy among the different systems can improve security beyond the capability of the security system acting alone.  Home automation can detect an unusual command sequence when a user enters home, which is an event unusual enough to alert a neighbor or a relative to signal that something is wrong. Below is a list of hardware and software implementations.

  1. Front Door. The IR sensor detects a visitor at the front door, rings the bell, turns ON the stairs light.  The web camera plays a dog barking, and sends an email every time there is an image change recording the event.
  2. Terrace. The terrace shutters at certain time of day close automatically and there is a danger of being trapped in the terrace.  An exterior switch enables to open the perimeter door shutters only when the alarm is not active.
  3. Irrigation. There are motorized valves to manage the irrigation water and the house water.  The irrigation motorized valve opens automatically when the electro valves for the garden and winter house are ON. Solution: in the past some plastic valve burst open due to thermal variations of the plastic under pressure.
  4. Water. Control that no water is dripping when leaving the house.  Water leaks may be far away from the sensors.  It is better to check the water flow.
  5. Ventilation. Every time someone goes to the bath room fresh air is pushed into the house.  This positive pressure causes the air to exit by the bathroom  and kitchen exhausts.  A daily change of air in the house keep the house fresh and easier to clean.
  6. Syphones. To avoid the syphons to dry up for lack of water use, the WC and the shower are irrigated during 5 minutes every week.
  7. GEN_OFF. Turn off all lights in the house by pressing the switch twice in 3 seconds.
  8. Paths. Press ON the wall switch to activate the lights along the path to the bathroom in case there is a need to get up in the middle of the night.
  9. Bathroom. Keep the light of the corridor On as an indication that a person enter the bathroom.  Turn of the corridor after a delay when the person exist the bathroom.
  10. Shutter FPC. Raise the shutters only partially when there is a pilot light ON.  This avoids to irradiate the room abruptly.
  11. Indiana Jones. The first time you enter in the house after deactivating the alarm, within a 20 seconds delay, the burglar alarm executes a panic call. Unless a sequence of lights commands are executed in the proper sequence to disable the panic call.
  12. Fibonacci. Turn several lights ON following a pseudo random sequence.
  13. Open House. Entrance courtesy light goes on temporarily (10 minutes) when the door opens up or when the burglar alarm is disable.
  14. Close House. Turn OFF the zones Kitchen and Laundry, and home theater when leaving the house. All the lights are turned off when the house alarm is set or after pressing the scenario Close House.
  15. Day. Rise the shutters in the day zone only
  16. Night. Lower all shutters for privacy.
  17. Bedside. Hiddens comands in the switches by the bedsides can be program to turn off, remotely, lights when going to bed. By pressing the switch twice, in less than 3 seconds, a hidden scenario will execute in addition to toggling the local light.

Applications

Mac OS X computers enable users, of home automation, with native applications like AppleScript Editor and Automator, to create Apps and Application Services to discover, monitor, and command all home automation devices.

On the sidebar there is a list of swift programs.  Click on the swift program to preview it, and click on the compressed playground to download it, and open it in the download folder of your computer to see the file running. The playground programs enables the user to change the instructions lines of the program, and it provides an inmediate feedback while the program is running.  Change the gateway IP and the name of your variables to customize the program to run correctly.  The playground requires a mac computer with xcode installed.
